Vägen Hem
Vägen Hem explores Swedish holidays as a way to help young Swedish-Americans reconnect with their heritage while living in America.
My heritage is something that is very important to me, as I’m sure it is for most people. I’m half Swedish — my mom was born and raised in Sweden, and I was raised bilingual, and celebrated Swedish traditions. I grew up going to Swedish school and spending time with the Swedish community in Massachusetts. I felt most connected to my heritage when celebrating holidays and practicing Swedish traditions. Sharing traditions is a wonderful way to build connections.
Vägen Hem was inspired by my experience growing up as a first-generation Swedish American. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve felt more disconnected from that part of my identity, so this project became a way to explore and reconnect with my heritage while helping other young Swedish Americans do the same.
