My project, SLOW THE F* DOWN, addresses the current state of social media and the spread of misinformation, as well as junk posts that foster a negative view of the world. People today mindlessly scroll through social media, listen to influencers spout their biased opinions, and accept them as truth.
My goal is to combat this by slowing down the ability to post instantly, requiring posts to be labeled, and including sources and notes to help teach media literacy skills. SLOW THE F* DOWN features statistics and a bias meter to remind users of what they're consuming.
The project aims to encourage people to think twice before believing a post and to realize that many posts are taken out of context, designed to promote a specific political stance or ideology, or created to scam for money. Having SLOW THE F* DOWN easily accessible allows users to fact-check instantly.
