For my project I worked on a game inspired by surrealist and experimental film, pulling heavy inspiration from experimental media both in film like the works of David Lynch as well as in interactive media such as the Playstation 1 art project LSD: Dream Emulator, the Silent Hill Series and more modern surreal horror games like Anthology of The Killer and Psychopomp. Our earliest concepts were based directly on the visual language of Lynch’s short film Rabbits.
The intention was to create a space in which the player is strictly an observer, experiencing and exploring but with the mechanic of a camera, rather than traditional tools/mechanics normalized in games. Players are able to take photographs which are stored permanently to be reviewed at any time, and the world around the player is most responsive to the way the player observes it with the camera.
