Artist/Thesis Statement
Growing up with a cousin who had Down's Syndrome taught me empathy and the value of helping others. I always wanted to be there to support her. I found that passion again when I was in high school. I started volunteering as a hockey coach my junior year of high school, giving back to the youth organization that I was a part of. Teaching those young kids how to skate and learn the game of hockey really meant a lot to me. Helping people of various ages or disabilities always gave me the fuel to help others less fortunate than I am.
When I first went off to college, I never expected to join Greek Life. Over the last three years while I’ve been in college and a part of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity, I have had the pleasure of being able to be a part of something bigger. I have participated in well over 20 different philanthropic events ranging from Special Olympics and St Jude’s Research Hospital to local organizations like the Lowell Wish Project. Getting the opportunity to participate and help others in need makes my life feel complete.
My passion for helping others is why I’ve formed “Connected”. It gives you a one stop shop for everything philanthropic. Our mission is to have a universal philanthropic donation center that allows you to track financial and time-based donations, as well as to connect with friends and other various people to boost philanthropic awareness. You can earn and track badges upon completion of certain philanthropic tasks as well. Connected is meant for on-the-go donations and to track your philanthropic output. Connected is designed to enable and encourage people to make philanthropy an important part of their lives, both to help themselves and others as well as make it a more common topic of conversation to better our society.
