Lillian Andriolo
A Beam of Light
“A Beam Of Light” is a poem I wrote that I animated for so it can be experienced visually and audibly. The animations are based on what I see in my mind when I read my poem. It is an amalgamation of my inner thoughts shared in a non-traditional way.

Artist/Thesis Statement
Hi! My name is Lillian Andriolo, but I like to go by Lilly! I am an Animation and Interactive media student. I’ve been drawing since I was a child and have had many prized pieces on my fridge. My passion for art grew while in quarantine as I started seeing that maybe I wasn’t as bad at art as I thought! I decided to pursue art as it aligned with my interest in anime and games, and the idea of being able to contribute to the media I consistently consume ignited a passion in me I never felt before. I enjoy doing concept art and early design stages, and effect animation- which is seen in “A Beam of Light”.
In “A Beam of Light” The viewer can hear my voice and read the words as they watch the animation which creates an intimate viewing experience, and a vision into my mind.
The poem reads:
A beam of light
something intangible
you can’t help but look
even when it wants to be invisible
it remains seen
harnessing the power to change the world
to melt and evaporate
something that controls the dark
and is longed for in a clouded mind
it’s beautiful and unreachable
priceless but taken for granted
coveted but can’t be stolen
hidden within memories
something that creates memories
a projection of hope
that spreads to the furthest corners
reaches the darkest mind
touches the most tortured hearts
something that affects people
a beam of light
something I want to be
something intangible
you can’t help but look
even when it wants to be invisible
it remains seen
harnessing the power to change the world
to melt and evaporate
something that controls the dark
and is longed for in a clouded mind
it’s beautiful and unreachable
priceless but taken for granted
coveted but can’t be stolen
hidden within memories
something that creates memories
a projection of hope
that spreads to the furthest corners
reaches the darkest mind
touches the most tortured hearts
something that affects people
a beam of light
something I want to be
The animation is based on what I visually see when reading or reciting my poem. The music is performed by me as well since music is another passion of mine I wanted to include. I recorded myself playing piano and singing along to “Alone You Breathe” by Savatage, as it has been an important song within the relationship of me and my father since I was a kid. This piece is not only something to enjoy, but it is also a piece of me. It is a self portrait in a non-traditional way, instead of representing me physically, it represents me mentally and audibly.
