Artist/Thesis Statement
1950 // 2050 is an exhibition of curated and original content dedicated to advancing the theory of looking back at the history of graphic design to allow us to envision a solidified look of our future. The title of 1950 // 2050 is utilized to set a base time frame for the audience to establish themselves within. This timeline of 100 years allows those that are experiencing this piece to become familiar or have a direct connection to one of or both the years: 1950 and 2050. This thesis uses the study of trend cycles and connects the ideas of the International Style to that of our current time to make an attempt to determine the future of design. Inspired by the global reach of The International Style, this project dives deeper into the suggestion that graphic design’s future is directly inspired by graphic design’s past.
