West: Tales Of
A New Frontier
Tales Of A New Frontier is an original story that gives a modern twist to the classic tall tales of the Wild West. You’ll be a ride along to the perspective of the main character Rosetta, who is a teenage girl navigating her way around and defying the roles that she was assigned at birth. This story tackles and addresses ideas of gender roles, discrimination, mental and emotional health, and many more topics that teach important moral lessons. The concept development of the story, characters, setting and time period was all heavily researched in order to provide a historically accurate story. The artwork was developed by using Procreate on an IPad Pro, Adobe and Illustrator.
Artist/Thesis Statement
When I’m asked, “what do you want to do with the rest of your life? I answer with “I want to create stories”. Though, why? For me, a story is not just a story. When it comes to creating a story, it's the importance of representation that stands out the most. It is important to have a story where there is accurate and equal representation in a visual aspect. Though, for me it goes deeper than just what is visible. When I create any story, there is always a reason for it, and not just entertainment. A character is what is visually seen, but it's the story that tells what that character experiences and goes through is just as important. I look at it as even if the audience doesn't visually relate to the character, they can relate to what the character goes through and what they do to get through the obstacles. The moral lessons of the story is what should be taken away from it. A visual connection is important, but an emotional connection is what makes a story and character memorable. That is why I want to create stories. When creating a story, the first step is research. It's a necessity for me to be able to fully understand and fully immerse myself in a project. It's important to be as accurate as possible. Whether it's the need to understand basic structure and movements of a character or the need to have cultural and historical knowledge. The reason why research is such a valuable aspect in my process is because challenging oneself is how you grow, not only as an artist but a person as well. I want to tackle new methods develop new skills and ideas whenever the opportunity is present to me. Through digital illustrations I develop stories, characters, and vast worlds. I reference information of cultures from around the world, human history, mythology and the supernatural, and even religions as sources of inspiration.

My name is Alexis Sinotte and I am an aspiring concept artist and illustrator. Eventually, I would like to pitch my ideas to animation studios.
