Artist/Thesis Statement
Hi, I’m Shaynina Ribou, and I’m majoring in animation and interactive media. I have always aspired to work on art projects and collaborate with others to create art that reaches out to others. When I was younger, I watched my favorite artists create their and share it online. I was amazed at how their creativity brought people together and inspired them to create their own animations and video games. One game that particularly stood out to me was Undertale; it made me realize that individuals could create video games on their own without the need for a large company to oversee and alter their work. No one had to wait to tell their stories, and that inspired me greatly.
One of my projects, Spectrum, is a comic dub that features voice acting and music that is edited into a video. I collaborated with voice actors, music producers, and video editors to bring this project to life, and I cherished every moment of the process. Creating a comic dub requires many steps including Script writing, Art Rendering, Voice acting, Editing, and Music producing. Each part of the process is important in creating a project that reaches a wide audience. If a viewer has a hard time watching the video they can read the comic book, and vice versa.  I had never taken on a leadership role before this project, so I had to step out of my comfort zone. After 4 years of being in college I knew I was ready, and I learned a lot from these collaberations.
Spectrum is a comic about Aoko, Zelie, Copper, and Beryl. They’re Voyagers entrusted with the noble task of protecting the surrounding kingdoms from a purple parasite. This comic pays tribute to video games and TV shows such as The Amazing Digital Circus that inspire the creation of original characters and stories. The message of the story is that anyone can be a hero, reminding us that each person has a journey and a unique story to share.
