Rachel Whipple
Mine
"Mine" is an original song written by Rachel Whipple with an animated music video to accompany it. She uses a mix of 2D development, paper and clay stop motion, and 2D and 3D animation to tell this story. This piece is best understood by people who have been through heartbreak and been enlightened from the pain. It explores what it is like to be heartbroken and then lose a friend in your life due to the end of a relationship. The song connects people with their grief and hopefully will make them thankful for the people they have in their lives. This music video is abstract, but the emotion of the work conveys the true underlying feeling of loss and healing.
Artist/Thesis Statement
A lot of Rachel’s art is concentrated on feminist empowerment, trauma, and emotional expression. She uses not only her art skills but her music skills to create compelling pieces that start conversations within her community. If someone feels nervous when looking at her work or is in awe, she has done her job.
Rachel's main focus career-wise, is to tell stories in order to help people heal from the trauma they experience in their day-to-day lives. No one should be ashamed of how they feel especially when it comes to their mental health. If Rachel is able to create stories that people can relate to and empathize with, she will have completed her life goal. She also hopes that even with pain she can help bring happiness to people's lives because it is nice to have a reason to smile.
