As a child, we’re able to eat whatever we want, without consequence. However, that nostalgia isn’t fully held by someone with a food allergy. I’ve been allergic to peanuts and tree-nuts since childhood and if I come into contact with these allergens, I can suffer from a life threatening, anaphylactic reaction. Whenever I’m away from home, I wonder: What if I forgot my EpiPen? What if the people around me aren’t aware of my allergy? What if they don’t know what to do? These lingering questions resulted in playing-it-safe at restaurants, saying no to foods labeled with “may contain” or “processed on shared equipment” and foods that are entirely unlabeled.
With the experience of always having EpiPens and antihistamines in reach, I realized something: the only treatments I’ve seen are post-reaction. What if there was a way to stop it before it even happens? Now there is. Palate Plus helps ease allergy worries through preexposure safety products, awareness, and allergy resources. Food allergies happen when the immune system misidentifies proteins in food as a threat, releasing histamines and causing symptoms of an allergic reaction that can range in severity from mild to anaphylactic.
My goal is to help allergy sufferers, and those who encounter them, feel in control; helping them be prepared if or when accidents happen. Our line of transdermal patches, focusing on the 8-most-common allergens, help your immune system properly identify these proteins, preventing the release of histamines from ever starting in the first place. Palate Plus patches provide up to 12 hours of protection per dose and can be used for ages 6 and up. Whether it be for yourself or a loved one, it’s always nice to have an extra layer of protection.
